Who are we?
We are an independent Debt Advice service, which was set up by New Community Church, to help anyone who struggles to manage his or her money. We are staffed by sympathetic volunteer advisers who have all received training in giving debt advice and who are licensed by the Office of Fair Trading.
What do we do?
We provide friendly advice and support to people who are: – experiencing difficulty managing their finances – struggling to make repayments on one or more debts – not in debt but having difficulty making ends meet. We are able to suggest ways of budgeting and additional benefits that may be due. (However, we are not able to provide specific financial advice on the best mortgage, insurance policy or pension etc!) For those who have debts they can’t pay, we’ll again provide advice on how to manage the budget, but well also negotiate with the people owed money to, offering reasonable repayments that are affordable.
Who is it for?
Absolutely anyone who has a problem managing money.
What does it cost?
Nothing – it’s totally free! The church provides the premises, stationery and telephone etc. The counsellors are all volunteers.
Who will need to know?
We offer a service that is strictly confidential. We will not pass your details on to anyone outside the service without your permission.
